The award will focus on the accomplishments of car and truck builders 25 and under, eventually taking the winner of the award to the world’s largest automotive tradeshow, The SEMA Show
PLEASANTON, Calif. (Feb. 18, 2021) – Goodguys Rod & Custom Association, the organizer of America’s premier hot rod and custom car events, has announced the establishment of The Next Generation Award presented by Goolsby Customs, formerly called the Young Guys/Gals award, created to encourage young builders to continue in the industry and to foster a field of talent which will sustain the hobby. The overall winner will receive prime placement in the Goodguys booth at the upcoming SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
“We have seen more young enthusiasts than ever entering the hobby and they deserve the attention as much as our industry veterans,” said Goodguys C.O.O Andrew Ebel. “They are incredibly creative and innovative and continue to push the limits of the car hobby. Our goal is to help them shine and to give them the platform that can help take them to the next level.”
Carrying on with tradition, a special parking area will be in place for contestants at each Goodguys event. The top two from each event, chosen on Saturday morning from the special parking area, will receive priority placement inside the show and a winner will be chosen at the end of the event based on a combination of social media voting and representatives from Goodguys & Goolsby Customs. From those individual event winners, one young builder will be chosen to bring their build to the next SEMA Show where it will be showcased amongst the work of the top builders in the world. Builders 25 and under can compete as long as they have performed the majority of the work on their project car or truck.
“It’s great to see a younger audience take interest in the art of hot rodding,” said the founder of Goolsby Customs, Jonathan Goolsby. “This award celebrates the achievements of young builders, but it also continues on the tradition of building custom cars. Through it, we celebrate the present and build a future for the hobby and all of the great businesses and individuals who support it.”
The first event winner will be selected at the Goodguys 11th LMC Truck Spring Lone Star Nationals in Fort Worth, Texas on March 14. That event kicks off the Goodguys 2021 show calendar and runs March 12-14.
