The Eastern States Exposition Center, known far and wide as The Big E, hosted a festive stop on the Goodguys summer event tour for the third consecutive year last weekend. For the first time, every show car owner in the Northeast, got a chance to participate!
The event format was revised into the popular Goodguys All American Nationals presented by Grundy Worldwide Insurance, swinging open event gates to all genres of hot rodders. And boy did they come out! Healthy doses of early hot rods, mid 50s classics and customs and 70s muscle were joined by new era, late model show cars set against the charming backdrop of this historic show grounds.
While the weekend weather proved challenging at first, come mid-day Saturday the skies shined bright and blue and stayed that way.
The fair weather was a welcome site not only to show & shiner’s but to Goodguys AutoCross racers as well. The cone chargers strutted their stuff all day Saturday and Sunday on a giant track, putting competitors through their most challenging and competitive course in the event’s history.
When the final times were calculated, it was Bob Bertelsen in his ’69 Chevy C-10 earning the Finals Shootout bid and the PRO class win (60.217), Kenny Edwards Jr in Street Machine (59.089), Dave Eastman in Hot Rod (70.469) and Zach Sawyer in the Truck class (65.749) tasting victory.
Sunday’s event vibe was never better as thousands of dads came out to celebrate Father’s Day. Too see dads and their kids bonding over cars and reminiscing of the good old days was heartwarming to say the least. Is there a better venue to celebrate Dad’s Day than a car show?
As the event’s top cars were paraded in front of the stage during Sunday’s awards ceremony, the gathered crowds gave their approval with hearty applause, and admiring eyes. It was a great way to close a memorable Northeast Goodguys weekend.
