Mind-Boggling Model Engine Exhibit Featured in Pleasanton this Weekend!

The “Western Engine and Model Exhibition” hosted by The Bay Area Engine Modelers Club returns to this weekend’s 27th West Coast Nationals presented by Flowmaster boasting over 50 exhibitors displaying their life’s work – hand crafted, scale model piston driven miniature engines. These engines start, run and idle just like those that power life size cars, steamships and motorcycles!

The highlight of this year’s exhibit will be Jim Moyer’s amazing (and tiny) 1/6th scale small block Chevy corvette engine. Moyer’s miniature Chevrolet 327 is a masterpiece down to the tiny firing order numbers in the intake manifold!

Ken Hurst will bring his collection of V8’s including his blown, 5-main bolt “Black Widow”. Master machinist Dwight Giles will exhibit engines, as will George Gravatt. Gravatt will bring his opposed-piston engines which are engineered and designed by himself.

BAEM Club Secretary Dr Bob Kradjian will bring his two most popular engines to exhibit including the “Seal” and the “Sea Lion” inline 4-cylinder engines that pop and crackle with the best of them!

Several educational displays are coming including the “Visible 4” which shows kids how an internal combustion engine works! The model is set up so kids (and adults for that matter) can see how a camshaft and crankshaft spin, how spark ignition works, valve timing etc. It’s a very popular display.

Bay Area sculptor Michael Cooper will return with his elaborate art pieces including his whimsical mechanical collages. Cooper is coming off a featured exhibit at the San Francisco Museum of Craft & Design.

The Western Engine Model Exhibit will be located in the Agricultural building of the Pleasanton Fairgrounds near the Court of Four seasons plaza and will be open all weekend. There is no separate fee for the model engine show. It is included in the price of admission to the Goodguys 27th West Coast Nationals presented by Flowmaster.
