Roger Burman Earns Goodguys AutoCross Finals Shootout Spot in “Crusher”

Driving Dave & Karen Leisinger’s lightweight, Summit Racing Equipment-sponsored ‘70 Camaro affectionately named “Crusher”, Roger Burman won the coveted AutoCross Finals Shootout spot at last weekend’s 3rd Spring Lone Star Nationals at Texas Motor Speedway. Burman’s best lap of 57.082 seconds was almost a full second faster than his fellow competitors.

The AutoCross track at Texas Motor Speedway is one of the largest Goodguys races on all year, yielding hi-speeds & heavy braking. Burman and “Crusher” were up for the task. The car was built specifically for AutoCrossing.  The idea was to set the motor back 6-plus inches and lighten the car by using fiberglass and aluminum panels. Under the hood is a wicked, Warren Johnson-built 800hp V8 mill. Burman’s crew at his Lakeside Rods & Rides shop welded together their own custom frame and mated it with a Detroit Speed & Engineering hydroformed subframe at the front and QUADRALink rear system out back. The car runs fast on Ridetech coilovers. The ominous Boze Mesh wheels measure (18×12 front and rear). Providing that all-important grip is a set of Falken Azenis tires (315/30R18 front and rear). It stops on a dime courtesy of a Baer big brake kit. You get the idea –“Crusher” is bad to the bone and will take some beating at the Shootout Finals this fall.

The Goodguys AutoCross Finals Shootout Presented by BF Goodrich Tires held November 16th at Westworld in Scottsdale, AZ will feature a 24-car field made up of 11 finalists from the year-long Shootout, 9 PRO class drivers as well as four entrants who “race their way” into the Finals.  Those final four slots will be filled by the fastest cars on-track Friday, November 15th at the Southwest Nationals.

The Goodguys National AutoCross Shootout Finals winner will receive $3,000 in cash along with a Goodguys AutoCross-themed custom toolbox from Snap-on ($7,000 value) and a set of BFGoodrich Tires. In addition the Shootout winner will be honored with a selection as one of the “Goodguys Top 12 Cars of the Year”.
Goodguys will pay the runner up $1,250 in cash along with a set of BFG tires while the 3rd and 4th place finishers get $500 (3rd place) and $250 (4th place) along with the free set of tires from BFG.
