Last weekend’s Goodguys 3rd Spring Lone Star Nationals was the best one yet as “Chamber of Commerce” weather conditions graced Texas Motor Speedway throughout the warm weekend. Nothing brings out cars and car people quite like warm spring weather!
A record number of cars made the show (over 2,100 cars over the three days) with record crowds as well. One long time track hot dog vendor said she’d “never sold so many dogs” which brought a smile. Vendors reported brisk sales along the midway and dozens of little ones made off with free model car kits courtesy of Revell!
On track, it was Roger Burman in the Summit Racing Equipment sponsored “Crusher” ’70 Camaro winning the Goodguys AutoCross Shootout Finalist spot. The AutoCross action was hot & heavy all weekend on the big course with numerous heavy hitters in attendance including Bret Voelkel and Jason Brady of Ridetech, The Leisinger gang, Chris Smith representing the Roadster Shop as well as Street Rod class standout Kurt Janish with his ’34 Ford.
Jim & Chelisa Vagim’s custom 1954 Buick convertible “La Balena”, built by RPM Hot Rods was selected as the Goodguys 2013 Vintage Air Custom Rod of the Year Finalist while Charles and Patricia Moore of Mineola, TX (1965 Pontiac GTO) were selected as the Goodguys 2013 Hemmings Muscle Car of the Year Finalist.
