3rd Spring Lone Star Nationals Recap – Record Car Count, Record Crowds Bask in Southern Sunshine

2,100 cars and a record crowd packed into Texas Motor Speedway last weekend for the Goodguys 3rd Spring Lone Star Nationals

Last weekend’s Goodguys 3rd Spring Lone Star Nationals was the best one yet as “Chamber of Commerce” weather conditions graced Texas Motor Speedway throughout the warm weekend. Nothing brings out cars and car people quite like warm spring weather!

Jim Vagim’s ’54 Buick built by RPM Hot Rods was selected as a finalist for the Goodguys 2013 Vintage Air Custom Rod of the Year award

A record number of cars made the show (over 2,100 cars over the three days) with record crowds as well. One long time track hot dog vendor said she’d “never sold so many dogs” which brought a smile. Vendors reported brisk sales along the midway and dozens of little ones made off with free model car kits courtesy of Revell!

Hundreds of eager rodders got a chance to cruise the hi-banks of Texas Motor Speedway in their show cars & trucks

On track, it was Roger Burman in the Summit Racing Equipment sponsored “Crusher” ’70 Camaro winning the Goodguys AutoCross Shootout Finalist spot. The AutoCross action was hot & heavy all weekend on the big course with numerous heavy hitters in attendance including Bret Voelkel and Jason Brady of Ridetech, The Leisinger gang, Chris Smith representing the Roadster Shop as well as Street Rod class standout Kurt Janish with his ’34 Ford.

Todd Adams’ 2010 Dodge Charger was selected for an All American Sunday pick

Jim & Chelisa Vagim’s custom 1954 Buick convertible “La Balena”, built by RPM Hot Rods was selected as the Goodguys 2013 Vintage Air Custom Rod of the Year Finalist while Charles and Patricia Moore of Mineola, TX (1965 Pontiac GTO) were selected as the Goodguys 2013 Hemmings Muscle Car of the Year Finalist.

-Lisa & Darrel Moseley received the Goodguys Pick (selected by our founder & chairman Gary Meadors) for their outstanding ’58 Chevy Apache pickup
