Hobaugh Earns First Goodguys AutoCross Shootout Finals Spot

-Brian Hoibaugh charging the course in Scottsdale last weekend

This past weekend at the Goodguys 4th Spring Nationals in Scottsdale, San Ramon, California’s Brian Hobaugh driving his family’s ’65 Corvette became the first driver eligible for the Goodguys AutoCross Finals Shootout (To be held Saturday, November 16th , 2013 right back at Westworld).

The rapid red ‘Vette has been in his family for 30 years and has been AutoCrossed the majority of those three decades. In fact – when the original owner purchased the car in 1965 – it was a frequent site at SCCA and club AutoCross races at the Pleasanton fairgrounds! That’s how far the AutoCross legacy goes back in Pleasanton.

Hobaugh’s time of 38.650 served as the fastest lap of the weekend in any class – earning him his Finals slot. “I wish I could say there’s a bunch of trick parts on this car – but it’s not that much different from stock really,” he said. “We modified the spring rates a bit and added Bilstein shocks as well as Aristo 18x12” wheels on all four corners. The tires are 315/30/18’s so it’s even all the way around. The motor is just your average 400 horse GM small block. There’s just really not a lot of aftermarket stuff on this car.”

He did say that 30 years of running it through AutoCrosses and fine tuning it have really made the difference.
The Goodguys AutoCross Shootout Finals Presented by BF Goodrich Tires November 16th will feature a 24-car field made up of 11 finalists from the year-long Shootout, 9 PRO class drivers as well as four entrants who “race their way” into the Finals.  Those final four slots will be filled by the fastest cars on-track Friday, November 15th at the Southwest Nationals.

The Goodguys National AutoCross Finals Shootout winner will receive $3,000 in cash along with a Goodguys AutoCross-themed custom toolbox from Snap-on ($7,000 value) and a set of BFGoodrich Tires. In addition the Shootout winner will be honored with a selection as one of the “Goodguys Top 12 Cars of the Year”.

Goodguys will pay the runner up $1,250 in cash along with a set of BFG tires while the 3rd and 4th place finishers get $500 (3rd place) and $250 (4th place) along with the free set of tires from BFG.
