Last weekend’s 20th Lone Star Nationals at Texas Motor Speedway was a rock ‘em sock ‘em affair that had participants sweating on Thursday (set up day) and Friday then bundling up Saturday and Sunday as a giant cold front blew through the great plains. It stayed dry all weekend and true to form, the tough Texan’s came out in great numbers to participate in one of our favorite annual events on the Goodguys tour.
One thing you can always count on is over-the-top amazing cars at this event. The build quality, the fit & finish and the styling of the Lone Star Nationals entries was true to form again this year giving Builder’s Choice celebrity award selector Kenny Davis fits on trying to whittle his favorites down to just ten entries. Another perk from the show was hosting three-time Funny Car World Champion Raymond Beadle and the mighty “Blue Max” funny car. Beadle and car owner Ronnie Young had a fantastic time over the weekend, reminiscing with fans and lighting off the 4,000 horsepower machine. A lot of good memories from drag racing’s heyday were shared.
Out on the AutoCross course, the action was hot & heavy from the very start. This is one of the biggest tracks of the year and the speeds were high and elapsed times low.
All in all it was a spectacular weekend to be a Goodguy in Texas. Enjoy these photos from a memorable weekend in the Lone Star State! See y’all again next spring for the 3rd Spring Lone Star Nationals, March 15-17 right back here at Texas Motor Speedway!
