“Pure Hell” vs “Nanook” Round Two at Blue Suede Cruise!

Summit Motorsports Park, Norwalk, OH – The world’s most famous Fuel Atereds are back for Round #2 in their 2009 match race series! Rich Guasco’s Northern California based “Pure Hell” Austin bantam roadster and Dave Hough’s Las Vegas based “Nanook” ’23 Ford will square off for a weekend of ground pounding, unpredictable guardrail to guardrail action August 28, 29 & 30 at the Goodguys 8th DuPont Blue Suede Cruise in Norwalk, OH!

Hough’s bright green “Nanook” got the better of Pure Hell back in June at the Goodguys Hot Rod Nationals but Guasco assures his car will rebound in Norwalk. “I’ve been running all over the state of California getting new blowers and making this motor happier” Guasco said. “We had not had the car out in 8 years prior to Indy and were able to run a 6.876 @ 188.81 with Jason Richey behind the wheel. We should be able to run 6.30’s in Norwalk so Hough better tune his up.”

Hough meanwhile has been on the match race circuit all summer long with his driver Vince Generalao running consistent 6.40s. “We’re ready,” Hough said. “I love going to Norwalk. The Nanook will love that smooth racing surface. Pure Hell is in trouble.”

Both cars have over eighty-eight years of combined quarter mile history. Pure Hell first appeared on the dragstrip (with Guasco behind the wheel) in 1963 while Nanook debuted in 1965 and was originally driven by Hough himself. Both cars own the top performance records for Fuel Altered roadsters with a best time of 6.18 @ 236mph for Nanook and a 6.32 @ 238mph for Pure Hell. The last time they appeared together came in 2004, when both cars participated in the Goodwood Festival in the United Kingdom.

The Goodguys 8th DuPont Blue Suede Cruise is two giant events in one. The entire west side of Summit Motorsports Park will be filled with a show & shine featuring over 2,000 rods, customs, classics, muscle cars and trucks. Vendor exhibits and a swap meet are also featured. The east side of the track will be filled with over 300 vintage drasgsters, funny cars, altereds and gassers making it one of the country’s largest hot rodding events.

The event is open from 8am-5pm Friday 8/28 and Saturday 8/29 and 8am-3pm on Sunday 8/30. General admission is $20, kids 7-12 $6. For more visit www.ggbluesuedecruise.com
