The Hot Rod Industry Alliance (http://www.sema.org/hria) has a really cool Pinewood Derby race and promotion going on this year and Goodguys has entered the battle! The Goodguys entry is this way cool Bonneville-styled roadster, complete with painted Moon discs, Buick drums, roll cage, tonneau cover and a quick change rear! Goodguys Gazette Editor and all around designer/hot rodder Kirk Jones built the wooden racer in his garage!
The actual race itself has already taken place (Derek White edged out Rich Evans for first place) but there are still two more prizes to be given out: Best in Show and Best Engineered. These awards will be voted and awarded at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas October 30-Nov 1. The HRIA has two primary goals for the HRIA Pinewood Challenge – To raise money for two great charities through the auction of the cars (ChildHelp and Victory Junction Camp) and to promote awareness of Hot Rodding to the next generation of hot rodders through these mini-hot rods.
At SEMA, the cars will be on display in the HRIA Booth on Hot Rod Alley so please stop by the booth and cast your vote for Best in Show and Best Engineered! During the HRIA Industry Awards Reception on Wednesday evening Oct 31st, the 3 award winning cars will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to the two great charities. Stop by the HRIA booth and vote for the Goodguys entry!
