Bret Voelkel is no stranger to the AutoCross scene. In fact, it was Bret who first brought the idea, the passion and the equipment out to a Goodguys national event many years ago setting the stage for what today is known as Goodguys AutoCross.
He’s competed in events nationwide driving a wide ranging fleet of American muscle and returns to this year’s Goodguys Sponsor Shootout (to be held Saturday, July 7th at the Goodguys 15th PPG Nationals in Columbus, OH) flying the Ridetech colors on a freshly built, flat black ’33 coupe. And this hot rod was built to go around cones!
Powered by an all aluminum Dart 427-cubic inch small Ford with Brodix Neal heads and other go fast goodies, the little coupe will pound out an astonishing 630hp and 600 lb.-ft of useful torque! Custom wishbone suspension in the rear is enhanced by TA Series shocks and the crew will trade off between Ridetech’s Hypercoil springs, Shockwave springs and some new carbon fiber springs Brett’s been “playing with.” Front suspension is inboard rocker arm with custom built control arms and the original Factory 5 attachment points, and the same shock combo as the rear. A Baer big brake kit stops the Speedline 18-inch wheels on a dime. Sticky BFG KDW rubber (295-35/18-front and 335-30/18-rear) will play a key role in getting all that power smoothly through the turns.
It’s a serious car and Voelkel is looking to win the competition while showing fans what his products can do. “We use these cars to continually refine our suspension products,” said Voelkel.
