The Choppers Hot Rod Association of Cleveland will be honored as the official “Featured Club” at the Goodguys 12th PPG Nationals July 10-12 in Columbus, OH. The Club will have their own special parking area, mingle with enthusiasts, reminisce and display their rods & customs.
Founded in October 1956 the Choppers Hot Rod Association is the oldest continually active hot rod club in Ohio. The name ‘Choppers’ was chosen because at the time most of the members drove chopped cars (and long before custom motor cycles became known as choppers).
In the late 50’s The Choppers organized and presented the inaugural AutoRama in downtown Cleveland. That tradition continues today with the annual Choppers Rod & Custom Show held each April at the Soccer Sportsplex stadium in North Olmstead, Ohio.
The club maintains a 6000 square foot garage with 13 stalls for repairs and car storage. It also sports a small machine shop and a large meeting room. For the last 53 years, except when it falls on a holiday, club meetings have been held every Thursday. The club is proud they have one surviving member of the original club and has a number of members with over 45 years seniority.
The Choppers now have 33 members with more than 43 vehicles including hot rods, street rods, customs, muscle cars, a funny car and an alcohol dragster. Make sure and stop by and say hello to these founding pioneers of the Ohio hot rod scene!
