Ridler, AMBR Winner’s Coming to 11th Meguiar’s Del Mar Nationals

We’ve got a treat for you at the upcoming Goodguys 11th Meguiar’s Del Mar Nationals April 1-3 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds! This year’s Ridler award winner as well as America’s Most Beautiful Roadster will both be attending and will be displayed inside the Pat O’Brien Hall. It’s the first time the Ridler and AMBR will be displayed together at the Del Mar Nationals.

Bruce Ricks’ Sapulpa, Oklahoma based ’56 Ford Sunliner – the winner of the Don Ridler Memorial award at the 59th Detroit Autorama is a stunning custom rod. Built at the shop of Steve Cook Creations, it features a wedged body (becoming narrower as you move forward) and is channeled. The hood and front fenders are drooped with the fenders re-peaked, A-pillars leaned, custom bumpers and grille, side reveals softened, a “spine” added to the trunk, full-belly pan, custom side trim, and the soft top was chopped. Speaking of the top it was stitched by Gabe’s Street Rods Custom Upholstery and they also got the nod for the interior. Applied over the sheet metal is a DuPont Hot Hues custom mix in charcoal.

The car cruises on a RideTech RidePro e3 air suspension on a stretched wheelbase coupled with a Tiger quick-change, a Tremec TKO-500 five-speed gearbox, and a full complement of Baer brakes featuring six-piston calipers with 14-inch rotors in front and 16-inch rotors in back. Schott Performance supplied the 18×7 and 20×10 wheels. An original Ford Single Overhead Cam 427-inch V-8 lies beneath the custom hood.

Coming over from Phoenix, Arizona is Daryl Wolfswinkel’s sleek black ’34 Ford – named America’s Most Beautiful Roadster at the 62nd Grand National Roadster Show.

Built by Doug Jerger and the team at Squeeg’s Kustoms in Chandler, AZ, Wolfswinkel’s traditionally styled full fendered roadster is powered by a ground pounding 427 big block Chevy featuring a Dart aluminum block and heads and Hilborn injection finished in brushed aluminum. A rich brown leather interior and nickel plated Halibrand wheels round out this flawless hot rod.

Step inside the Pat O’Brien Hall in Del Mar to catch a glimpse of these one-of-a-kind show stoppers!
